We're Moving! The Last Episode From the Original RoXolid Studio!
In this episode, we take you through one final walk-through of our house prior to our move to our new home.
In 2021, I had looked at moving out of our existing home and into a different location for a few reasons. I wanted to find a home in a location with better schools for our youngest daughter, I wanted to find a home with 4 bedrooms to have more room for our family, and I wanted to find a new home that had a basement for our studio and game room. In early August 2021, in the span of 48 hours we both accepted an offer to purchase our home and we had an offer accepted on our new home that met all of our needs. With all this said and done, we needed to pack up our old home and move it into our new one. But before we could move, we had to empty out our existing home. WIth everything packed up, I took one last walk through the house, revisiting some memories and saying my final goodbyes.
While I had a few false-starts with the channel in 2015 and 2016, I really dedicated myself to making RoXolid Productions a success in June of 2017. The initial thought was to focus on general consumer technology, looking at things such as cutting or shaving the cord, trying out different streaming services (Playstation Vue, DirecTV Now, Sling TV, etc) and different streaming devices. I had also started looking at the options for different clone HDMI-equipped NES systems, such as the RES+ from Retro-Bit, the Hyperkin RetroN HD, and the 8-Bit HD from GamerzTek. From here, I found want I wanted to focus on with this channel, that being modern and retro video game systems.
Initially, I was going to simply film in my living room, but with 3 dogs running around, poor sound, and poor lighting, I decided to use our extra bedroom as a game room to film in. I quickly expanded my collection from 8-10 systems to over 100 at the time of our move. We added systems from the US and elsewhere, original equipment and clone systems. In the end we really grew and thrived in our original game room, from just a handfull of followers to over 14,000 at the time of our move.
We cannot wait to get into our new home and setup our new studio. I am hoping to have better audio and lighting, especially with us no-longer having an interstate in our back yard! I'm also hoping to be able to have better production times, as we have over a dozen videos to be done before we even get our studio setup! One thing I am very curious to test is how the WiFi will work in a basement, but we have a new Taotronics 3-device mesh router system which will hopefully keep our fiber speeds high, even when connected wirelessly.
We are working on several giveaways for you to commemorate the move to our new house. Retro-Bit and Video Games Monthly have both stepped up to help provide giveaway items in November and December, 2021. Make sure you're subscribed to keep up-to-date with everything we have coming to the channel at our new house. We cannot wait to get things locked and loaded and filming in our new studio!
