Tropical Storm Earl could dump heavy rain on Puerto Rico, northeastern Caribbean

The National Hurricane Center said Sunday that Tropical Storm Earl could dump heavy rains with the potential for flooding in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Leeward Islands through Sunday night. CBS News is reporting.

As of 5 a.m. AST Sunday, Tropical Storm Earl was located roughly 90 miles (145 km) northeast of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The storm was moving to the west-northwest at a speed of 8 mph (13 km/h) and had maximum sustained wind speeds of 50 mph (85 km/h). AccuWeather reported.

Earl is the fifth named system of the hurricane season and is not forecast to impact the U.S. If it strengthens into a hurricane, it would be the second hurricane of the season after Hurricane Danielle. ABC News reported.
