First off, you have to be old enough to even know who Thin Lizzy is.

Second, it's also good to know that there are major artists that have covered their songs:

Then, it would also be helpful to know who the vocalist and bass player was.

His name is Phil Lynott and he is probably one of the most unsung heroes you can imagine and he inspired so many musicians.

Let me give you one small example:

I remember reading an article from Steve Perry and Neil Schon of the band Journey saying that early on in the band's career, they toured with Thin Lizzy.

When they heard how Phil Lynott was riding his songs, with his exchange of bass guitar and then singing, bass and singing, Neil had the idea he would do this on guitar with a guitar exchange. First the guitar hits and then space for the vocal and then guitar hits again and then space for the vocal again.

Turns out, this became a huge signature sound for Journey.

And for those of you who know, I am reminded of the phenomenal guitar players that have come out of Thin Lizzy: Scott Gorham, Gary Moore, John Sykes, Vivian Campbell, Brian Robertson, Snowy White, Midge Ure, Dave Flett, Richard Fortus (and others I am sure I am missing...)

With all of that said, the song "The Boys Are Back In Town" is one of their most epic pieces and has saturated rock radio for decades.

So I thought it would be fun to take a closer look at Phil's solo vocals so we could peer into one of the most influential and long lasting rock songs in all of rock history.
