In Episode 15, called Driving In The Mega City Of China | Chongqing | Alex In The City Ep.15 I share my experience taking to the streets of Chongqing with my E-bike.

Driving an electric bike or e-bike in China is probably the best way for foreigners to get around cities in China. E-bikes are easier to drive around town, more affordable, and more convenient for short-distance travel. However, Chinese law requires all foreigners as well as local citizens to register their e-bikes in order to drive them legally.

China can boast the highest number of electric cars in the world, but they're not nearly as ubiquitous as electric bikes. These $200 - $600 two-wheelers are a vital part of the future of clean transport in the country. There are about 300 million electric bikes on China's roads; that number is predicted to surge on the back of rising popularity and policy initiatives.
I personally have enjoyed riding my bike in China for the last three months now. I will say that every region has different rules so it's always best to check with local authorities for rules and insurnace obligations.

I was born in Canada, but I have always been interested in China. The population of Chongqing is similar to that of my country.
