Testing the Skull & Co Nintendo Switch Grip Case on the Switch OLED

In this YouTube short episode, we test out to see if the Skull & Co Grip Case designed for the original Nintendo Switch is compatible with the Nintendo Switch OLED.

On the surface, the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch OLED may look identical, but there are some slight differences in the overall size and dimensions of the systems. The Switch OLED is slightly wider, due to the increase in screen size, and Nintendo has refined some of the buttons, such as the power and volume. Because of this, accessory compatibility has definitely become a question. One of the most popular accessories for the Nintendo Switch, a grip case, may or may not work on your brand new OLED Nintendo Switch. We grabbed one of our favorites, the Skull & Co Grip Case, to check and see if we have any shot at making this work. The results may surprise you.

One of the things I like about the Skull & Co Grip Case is the grips themselves. I don't like how the Nintendo Switch feels in the hand by itself. It feels slippery, it feels thin, and I'm always worried that it's going to slide out of my hands. The Skull & Co Grip Case eliminates these concerns completely, and it's very comfortable. It also includes different grips that you can attach to tailor it to your personal gaming needs. For all these reasons, it was my first case that I tried on the Switch OLED from the original Switch.

Sliding the Grip Case on was actually pretty easy. In fact, it felt exactly the same as when I put it on an original Nintendo Switch. I don't know if that's because I've used this case for a while so it may have stretched out a little bit, but I did not feel like I had to force the Switch OLED in whatsoever. It's a good start!

Once the Switch OLED was installed, I took a look at the overall fitment, along with how it interacted with the buttons and other features around the system. I had to press a little bit harder on the power and the volume buttons to make them work, but they worked! I also found that it is very important to load the Switch into the grip case along the top of the system first as that seemed to yield easier fitment and better overall results.

I am sure that Skull & Co are working on a new grip case for the Nintendo Switch OLED, but in a pinch, the original case totally is usable on the new system! This will give you enhanced ergonomics and comfort during long gameplay sessions, as I think that this is much more comfortable than playing the Switch OLED and its default form factor. Good to know for sure!
