APPRAISAL FAIR FINDS | ANTIQUES & VINTAGE | RESALE SHOPPING

What could they have in a little old mountain town? Turns out there’s plenty of antiques and vintage here, and we get to shop for some and evaluate others at this small town appraisal fair with big fun finds!

Around the bends of these old highways appears Harlan, Kentucky, a small place that’s left a surprisingly big imprint on American culture. We look out at autumn views, then meet our hosts at their really hip vintage, antique and regional craft gallery that also serves as upcyclers to the town’s historic remnants! I get to do some unexpected shopping while I warm up for this afternoon’s appraisal fair, where we’re expecting a good crowd with interesting keepsakes.

And here they come! We got to meet a lot of friendly people with a variety of items we can help them interpret, from Victorian jewelry and a 5-generation cook pot to 1960s friction toys and fun French dog prints. The tones of a 1920s Victrola and a similarly aged violin reinforce that this is an area with a musical legacy. Perhaps most surprising is our opportunity to evaluate a cast iron pot that Antiques Roadshow wasn’t able to do.

There’s a little bad news here, as a piece of information that could cause a family feud between Jeffrey @RealNiftyVintage and Barb @WinkingOwlAntiques is shared…but in the end, this portion of the appraisal fair confirms our belief that small town folks often keep things longer and have some really cool stuff!
