The story of vitamin b17 is one of the most compelling tales in medicine.
Vitamin B17, also known as amygdalin, is a substance that has been used to treat cancer for years in many countries.
Amygdalin belongs to a group of substances known as cyanide-containing plants.
They are found in many plants including apricots, peaches, cherries and almonds.
It is believed that cancer cells cannot live in an acidic environment.
So they need alkaline environments where they can live and grow by consuming oxygen until they die off from lack of oxygen or nutrients.
This makes it easier to kill them with substances like vitamin B17 that produce acidity (sometimes
called “laetrile”).
Apricot seeds had been eaten as part of the traditional cultures of many countries, but it wasn't clear why those cultures hadn't developed more cancers.
When they looked closer at the fruit, they found that there were two substances in the seed - one is B17 and the other is an enzyme called alpha-galactosidase that breaks B17 down into cyanide - and only tiny traces of this enzyme were required to neutralize its anti-cancer effects on tumor cells.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the use of the vitamin b17.
It was introduced in the 1930s to cure cancer.
The FDA banned the use of Laetrile for human consumption in the United States in 1971.
The FDA banned Vitamin B-17 or laetrile in 1970 due to its compound, amygdalin, which was later found out to be toxic.
This decision, someone argues, was also made because of pressure from the pharmaceutical companies who wanted to monopolize the cancer treatment industry.
The most common sources of vitamin B17 are apricot kernels, barley, wheat, and alfalfa sprouts.
As well as the seeds from apple, cherry, plum, nectarine and peach trees, as well as cranberry,
blueberry and grapefruit families.
Apricot kernels are the most potent source.
It's important to talk to your doctor or other professional before beginning any sort of supplementation or treatments.
