"I purchased this unit specifically to replace existing smooth hollow-core doors with six-panel doors in rental property. The process was a roller coaster ride from excitement, frustration, disappointment and finally satisfaction. All most every door I encounter has a 3-½ hinge with a 5/8 radius. So here was the source of My frustration: Prior to ordering this kit I called the Porta-Cable Help line, asked the girl if the kit would do 3-½ hinge with a 5/8 radius? She looked up the information on her computer and told me
"Yes" so I ordered that Bad boy. However my excitement was short lived. The kit comes with (1) Router bit and (1) collet guide for 1/4" radius and square corners only. In order to do other size radius you have to order other bits and guides.

For the 5/8 radius you need parts #42048 at $16 and #43442PC at $25 - this took another 2 days to receive. They do not sell these at Home Depot, Lowes or Rockler. So now I am out $250 for the kit and another $40 bucks (plus shipping and tax) for the right bit and guide to route a 5/8" radius (the most common hinge around) at least in this part of the woods. So I am very disappointed at this point to say the least.

At this point in time I want to send the whole mess back, I have 16 doors to replace and I have 3 days invested in this so I decide to go ahead and proceed.

This kit is well built, nice case and constructed from thick gauge metal. Overall good quality. The instructions are both in a large foldout booklet and labeled on the inside case lid. Instructions have several pictures and more information then a MIT PHD can comprehend. After reading and studying them both at length I was at a loss - It looks like English and well? Anyway after a fair amount of time I folded up the instructions and just started putting the pieces together.

My first door took almost 2 hours to hang (very frustration) however!! after that I was able to set the hinges and hardware for the remaining doors in no time at all. (quick and easy to use)

Porta-Cable... shame on you for not including more then one bit and guide in what is basically a $300 kit. You have a good name and reputation and then you go a put a incomplete (my opinion) kit like this in the market place. Bad-Form

Bottom line: I love this kit and I am so glad that I stuck with it. I would buy this again. If you only have one or two doors to do then get the Porta-Cable 59370 template kit or the Ryobi A99HT1 both work well. If you have several doors to door or you are a tool junkie then this will do the job. Just know what hinge size and radius you need."
