In a virtual technical briefing, federal health officials discuss Health Canada's authorization of the Moderna bivalent vaccine, which targets the original SARS-CoV-2 virus from 2019 and the Omicron BA.1 variant. The vaccine is authorized as a booster dose for individuals 18 years of age and older and is the first bivalent COVID-19 vaccine approved in Canada. Taking part in the briefing are Dr. Supriya Sharma, chief medical adviser with Health Canada, Dr. Marc Berthiaume, director of the Bureau of Medical Science at Health Canada, and Dr. Howard Njoo, Canada's deputy chief public health officer.
