6 AMAZING THINGS TO DO IN RWANDA
Rwanda, often known as The Land of a Thousand Hills, is a country in East Africa noted for mountain gorillas, gorgeous volcanoes, and, as the name implies, infinite lovely hills.
Although it is also known for one of the deadliest genocides in history, its leadership has set out to bring the country's people together and show the rest of the world what it has to offer.
Rwanda has become a fantastic model for other African countries in terms of establishing efficient processes, combating corruption, organizing people, and marketing the country as a great tourism destination in recent years.
So, if you're considering a trip to Africa soon, here are five things you must do in Rwanda.
1. Go to Kigali
Kigali is one of Africa's most appealing capital cities. It features busy streets, winding boulevards, blossoming trees, verdant slopes, and a number of valleys and ridges. It's also a city where you can do a lot of things, such as:
Visit the Genocide Memorial in Kigali. This is where you may remember and honor the victims of the Hutu and Tutsi genocide in 1994.
If you're lucky enough to see the Umuganda, or national day of cleaning, which takes place on the last Saturday of each month, you can join the Rwandese in their civic duty and assist clean the streets.
At the Natural History Museum and State House, don't miss the panoramic views of the city.
Visit the local handicraft cooperative in Capaldi to pick up some bright souvenirs.
When visiting the Nyamirambo neighborhood, stop by one of the excellent cafes or pubs for a drink.
2. Spend time in the Gorilla Guardians Village.
When you visit Rwanda at the correct moment, you might have an even more exciting journey.
You won't have to worry about the weather, and you'll be able to spend more time immersed in a community of indigenous people and reformed poachers in a small village outside of Volcanoes National Park.
You can mingle with the locals, sample their cuisine, and learn about their customs.
You can also learn about the therapeutic benefits of plants found in the nearby woodlands, but you'll need a guide for that. The guide will also take you to a local school where you can learn other languages such as English.
The people in this cultural village are very friendly and welcome visitors with songs like "Songs of the Gorillas." If you prefer dance, they will also perform eight traditional dances for you.
One of the most important things to remember while interacting with the local population is to respect their customs.
This involves participating in late-night gatherings around the fire or in the preparation of food.
Also, when receiving gifts, demonstrate politeness by using both hands.
3. At Iby'iwacu Cultural Village, Become A Royal (Kinigi)
The cultural village is located in the Musanze area and can fulfill your ambition to be a monarch for a day.
The Banyarwanda people will provide you with a multi-faceted experience.
A monarchy role play entails dressing up as a king or queen of Nyanza province.
Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to enjoy the day like a royal.
Other activities worth trying include traditional beer brewing and traditional dances.
You might be entertained as well as enlightened when you visit the cultural village.
You can discover a lot about the people of Nyanza province's rich culture, including their art, food, and music.
4. Visit Akagera National Park and go on a safari.
While in Rwanda, you must also go on a safari to Akagera National Park, Central Africa's largest protected wetland.
It will just take two and a half hours to drive from Kigali to this location.
Giraffes, elephants, hippos, zebra, antelope, and birds inhabit the 440 square miles of protected area.
If you and your spouse are seeking for a unique trip, consider this park as one of the most thrilling destinations for couples.
If you want to see the other big animals and uncommon fauna, consider hiring a local tour guide.
Prior to visiting the park, make a reservation at the visitor's center.
