The Dixie Hummingbirds have been a renowned American gospel music group for over 80 years, starting from the jubilee quartet style of the 1920s, to the "hard gospel" quartet style of the 1940s and 1950s, all the way to the eclectic pop-tinged songs of today.

The Dixie Hummingbirds were formed in Greenville, SC, in the late 1930s. The group's primary style was jubilee, and they were joined in 1938 by 13-year-old baritone Ira Tucker and bass singer Willie Bobo. The group made its recorded debut a year later on Decca, with singles such as "Soon Will Be Done with the Troubles of This World," "Little Wooden Church," and "Joshua Journeyed to Jericho."
