Cristiano Ronaldo reiterates desire to leave Manchester United

Cristiano Ronaldo says he still sees a future away from Manchester United during his recent meeting. During a meeting with United officials on Tuesday, Ronaldo was accompanied by his agent Jorge Mendes.

Following United's failure to qualify for the Champions League last season, Ronaldo's camp expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford. Sources familiar with the latest meeting have since confirmed his stance hasn't changed, even after face to face talks.

Ronaldo returned to United for the first time since the end of last season this week. Due to a period of leave granted by the club, the 37-year-old did not make it to Thailand and Australia on their tour.

United have made it very clear that they do not want to lose Ronaldo and that new manager Ten Hag has him firmly in his plans. Mendes is understood to have presented United with a number of options during Tuesday's meeting, while maintaining their exit stance.

A loan, which would include Ronaldo agreeing to another year on his current deal which runs to 2023, was pitched, though United do hold the option to trigger a year's extension on Ronaldo's contract after it was signed last summer. Mendes also proposed canceling Ronaldo's contract for the remaining year, giving him the freedom to choose his next club.

Mendes and Ronaldo are of the belief that there are a number of options waiting for him, and they are not panicking due to the fact over a month remains in the transfer window.

As it stands, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid have ruled out any potential transfers for Ronaldo, while Chelsea withdrew its initial interest after Thomas Tuchel decided against it. Co-owner Todd Boehly is still keeping track of the situation, however, with Chelsea in need of a center forward.

While rejecting offers from Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Ronaldo has also told interested MLS clubs that this summer is not the right time for him to leave Europe. While Ronaldo is unlikely to be ready to play for United after missing most of the pre-season, it's understood he won't refuse to play under Ten Hag if he remains a United player. United begin the Premier League season at home against Brighton on August 7.
