Testing 14 Switch Docks On the Switch OLED in UNDER 14 Minutes
In this episode, we Test 14 different Switch Docks to see their compatibility with the Switch OLED in UNDER 14 Minutes.
The Nintendo Switch has been a juggernaut in gaming since its release, outselling even the Wii at this point. One of the great things about it is the ability to dock it to your television to enjoy gaming on the large screen. With the original Nintendo Switch, you had the option of purchasing extra OEM docks from Nintendo to play on multiple TVs, however, multiple manufacturers released third-party docks at a lower cost to allow you to accomplish the same thing. Many people have wondered if docks designed for the original Switch would work with the new Switch OLED, which we are here to test out.
Testing Parameters:
All the docks tested here were tested using the same Nintendo OEM power supply and HDMI cable to connect to my Lepow portable monitor. The docks that are an all-in-one cable solution were tested using a provided power supply and the same HDMI to mini HDMI adapter to connect to the monitor. If the display turned on I considered that to be a pass.

Testing:
Testing 14 Switch Docks On the Switch OLED may have seemed daunting, but I set things up ahead of time to make things easier for me. Minus my lighting. I tried something with my lighting and it, yeah, it didn't work. But that being said, I used my Lepow Portable Monitor to test the dock compatibility with an HDMI to Mini HDMI Cable. This actually came with my monitor, so I knew it worked without an issue. For power, I used the OEM Power Supply, this way I knew I wouldn't have any bricking issues that affected early docks.
NOTE, the issue with bricking was related to the POWER SUPPLY using incorrect voltages! If you stick with the Nintendo unit you'll be fine.
Conclusion:
Except for one different sort of dock, everything that I used on the switch also worked with the switch OLED. I think that was a deliberate choice from Nintendo, making sure that accessories from the past worked moving forward. All in all, I think you can buy a DOC slated to work for the original switch and have confidence that it should work with the switch OLED as well.
The only dock where I didn't use the Nintendo power supply is the Brook Gaming HDMI Cable. Brook provides their own power supply to plug into, since the cable has a USB-C Cable to power. The power supply features a matching USB-C Port for power.
