The tallest man in the world, Robert Pershing Wadlow, popularly known as the Alton Giant or the Giant of Illinois, was — and will certainly be — the tallest person in recorded history. He grew up in Alton, Illinois, a small town near St. Louis, Missouri. Wadlow was 8 ft 11 in (2.72 m) tall and weighed 439 lb (199 kg) when he died at the age of 22. Some say his guinness world record can never be broken.
