This beautiful butterfly visited my garden today. The Small Tortoiseshell is among the most well-known butterflies in Britain and Ireland. It is the first butterfly to be seen in spring and in the autumn. In autumn they visit garden flowers in large numbers. The butterfly has a striking and attractive patterning. The Small Tortoiseshell is one of our most common butterflies.
