Denominations

So, in Egypt, money is measured in pounds rather than dollars. Before coming to Egypt, I researched the currency and learned that it was called Egyptian pounds. So I expected to see price tags that read EGP, P, or even LBS. So when I first got to Egypt, I kept seeing signs that had a number and then LE next to it. I was so confused about what an LE was, but I soon learned that le is used to represent a pound, so 10 le means 10 pounds.

I just wanted to add that in there because it might save you some confusion,

So the egyptian pounds has a both notes and coins
Exchange Rates
Now when it comes to the exchange rate this is something that changes everyday. But as of now the best way to think about the exchange rate is the amount of pounds your usd can buy a good exchange rate will have 1 usd able to buy close to 16 pounds a bad exchange rate has usd buying close to 14 pounds. The actual rate is normally 1 dollar buys 15.6 pounds but many companies provide exhange rates lower than that which means you are not getting a fair exahnge on your money.

Some helpful advice for you to be able to quickly covert prices from Egypt pound to usd is remember 15 to 1.

15 pounds to 1 dollar. When you think of things that way it makes it so easy.
150 pounds is 10 dollars
1500 pounds is 100 dollars

My big piece of advice for you when it comes to exchange rate is to understand the exchange rate of any debit/credit cards you plan to use when you are out here.

Credit Cards

Within the country of egypt it is 100% possible to use your credit cards alsmost every place you will be visiting will have the machines need to pay with card. Just be mindful of your cards fees and you always want to alert your banks that you will be travelling over to egypt. So they dont flag your card and lock it. Most times you can just call in and put in a travel notice.
