Another key opportunity was for the Chicago Stags to announce their withdrawal from the league, while the stag players were selected by the Celtics, Nix and the 76ers, and the Celtics were Bob Cousy. On April 25,1950, the Celtics drafted Duquesne University star Charles Cupar, the first black player in NBA history, he was also one of three african-americans to join the league that year.
