Some will say the 2017 Honolulu Homeloans Pacifico Men's Night Doubles was one of the best & most competitive Kailua Night Doubles events in recent memory! Many three set thrillers in the main draw with sometimes unpredictable outcomes. Even the main draw crowd was surprised at some of the match results throughout the week (veterans of the event who come to expect certain outcomes based the draws & seeding). 2017 would make for a highly entertaining Night Doubles where each night you knew you were in for a treat.

That year, top seeds Ikaika Jobe & Dennis Lajola were coming into this event not just as the defending champions, but also making finals appearances in the event the last 3 years in a row. If they advanced to the finals again, this would be their 4th time in 4 years, putting their names in the Kailua Night Doubles record books. It would also be their 5th title together as a team at the club, also putting their team in the dynasty category. Yes, there was lots of history on the line in this event for these local legends in Hawaii.
Standing in their way was a team that many people knew would disrupt the draw but in what way, we'd soon find out! Hendrik Bode & Michael Yani pulled from their years on the collegiate & pro circuit to muscle their way through the main draw. It seemed this team, who already had loads of talent together, improved with every match they played this tournament. Both Michael & Hendrik were gunning for their 2nd Kailua Night Doubles title & first title as a team.

On semi final night of the 2017 Kailua Men's Night Doubles, both semis would go the distance as three setter after three setter went down! Jan Tribler & Mikael Maatta clawed their way past a har charging Marcel Chan Jr & Corey Pang to await the winner of this classic Men's Night Doubles thriller coming up!
