WHAT DOES STORYPOWER HAVE IN COMMON WITH MAJOR MEDIA, PUBLIC EDUCATION, POLITICS AND AND LEADERSHIP IN CORPORATE CULTURE??

PUBLIC SCHOOLS (Primary to Graduate School)
If you are curious about the veracity of my idea, just find a text book from when you were learning to read in second or third grade. Compare that text to what is being used today and what was being used when your parents or grands parents were being taught to read. You will discover in a few paragraphs how drastic is the change and transformation of society as depicted in those readings. Shaping the ideas, expectations, thoughts and opinions of young people is as old as the human race. The younger they are when exposed to ideas, the more likely they are to accept them as foundational truth, even if the “facts” are not supported by evidence, just theory and opinion. #STORYPOWER - IT’S ALL ABOUT THE NARRATIVE!

MEDIA - MAJOR AND SOCIAL
There once was a day when journalism as an industry was a trustworthy watch dog of all things. They were once, in the United States of America considered the 4th State or the 4th branch of government. They were the overseers who would call out wrong, sharing facts and evidence which was well researched and thoroughly vetted to be accurate. They were the heroes of the public and the Achilles heal of corruption. But that was more than a century ago. In my lifetime alone, the work of journalism has been co-opted and commandeered by various nefarious organizations who through financial pressure or threat of harm manipulate and control what is filmed, written, said and reported. Even stories “reported live” are being edited, cut short, manipulated by camera angle and made to tell a story which isn’t true. Spend 20 minutes on Twitter and you will see proof. #STORYPOWER - IT’S ALL ABOUT THE NARRATIVE!

CORPORATE CULTURE
Glass ceilings, good ole boy clubs, the haves and the have nots, the hiring policies, sexual harassment, the chain of command, the nature, culture and atmosphere of leadership these have always been the banter of business. Who’s in charge? Who decides? Who chooses the ones who will succeed and the ones predestined to failure? Who DRIVES THE BUS EVERYONE IS THROWN IN FRONT OF? Why doesn’t everyone have equal results? Why are only certain people allowed to be CEO? Who said they should make so much money? Listen, if you are hearing or asking any one of those questions, you are part of the narrative. You are the deciding factor. You get to choose where you work... or don’t. You get to decide if you will risk your fortune, your future and your time to build a business and hire people who despise your success or if you will be an employee jealous that the business builder takes home more money. #STORYPOWER - IT’S ALL ABOUT THE NARRATIVE!

SOCIAL AND HOME LIFE
I grew up on food stamps and potato soup. I grew up as the only son of single mom with no solid male role models in my life. Some of the guys I hung out with back then are still in jail. Some of them have DUIs and other crippling marks on their record. It could have been me. I could have turned out completely different. The same is true of you! Starting out broke or starting out with wealth IS NOT THE DETERMINING FACTOR for your future. Where, when and to whom you were born may have advantages and disadvantages but THOSE FACTORS DON’T DECIDE. Who do you stare at when brushing your teeth? They decide. What that particular, specific individual believes about you, says about you, tells the world about you, FEELS about you, THAT DECIDES how far you will go in life... NOTHING ELSE has the power to shape your destiny. You may have NO CONTROL of your situation or circumstances but you have COMPLETE CONTROL of how you respond. #STORYPOWER - IT’S ALL ABOUT THE NARRATIVE!
