From Caldecott Honor award-winning author Mo Willems comes another wonderful story about Trixie and Knuffle Bunny. This time it’s Trixie’s year to start school. She’s excited to go to school and show all her friends her favorite stuffed bunny. But unfortunately, there’s a little girl at school that also has a bunny. It’s almost the same bunny! The teacher takes their bunnies away and puts them on a shelf to make them stop arguing over the name whether it’s Nuffle Bunny or Kuh-Nuffle Bunny. They get their Bunnies back after school and each girl goes home. It’s not until late in the night that Trixie realizes something is terribly wrong. Her Bunny is not the bunny she brought home from school. She has the WRONG ONE!!! She gets her Daddy up and he goes downstairs to call the other girl’s daddy to see about switching bunnies but the other daddy calls right then to say “we have your bunny!”
So they meet out on the street under the Washington Square Arch and exchange stuffed rabbits. Both girls realize how much the other one loves her rabbit and they become best friends. This wonderful little story book teaches about how to be friends with other children who are different. It’s easy for the two girls to argue and fight over something as little as whether the K in Knuffle is silent or not, but it turns out both girls have a heck of a lot more in common than they have differences. This is true with so many people around us. We can get focused on what’s different and get mad and annoyed. But if we focus on what makes other people a lot like us, we can make a lot of new friends. I hope you enjoy this little telling and please subscribe to my channel. I believe reading is one of the most important life skills a person can develop because it unlocks the door to so many other people’s perspectives. A child needs exposure to good stories as the grow up because these stories help develop their mind and imagination. It develops empathy and understanding and can bring our whole society closer together as we all realize we have a lot more in common than we have differences. We share the same neighborhoods and have many of the same needs and desires. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this video!
