Arkansas: Three officers suspended after video shows beating

Three Arkansas law enforcement officers have been removed from duty and are under investigation, their departments confirmed, after bystander video captured at least two of them punching and kneeing a suspect during an arrest Sunday.

One of the officers repeatedly punches the man in the head and even bashes his head against the pavement. The BBC reports.

Another officer repeatedly knees the man in the back. Both are dressed in the uniform of the Crawford County Sheriff's office. The BBC reported.

A police officer restrains the man on the ground while this takes place. Reports the BBC.

As he is being beaten, the man covers his head with his hands and appears to be trying to roll up into a ball to protect himself. The BBC reported.

Crawford County Sheriff Jimmy Damante issued a statement Sunday evening, stating two county deputies will be suspended during the course of the Arkansas state police’s investigation into the incident and the sheriff’s office’s internal investigation. A Mulberry police officer also was suspended. USA Today reports.

In a statement released Sunday evening, Mulberry Police Chief Shannon Gregory said the officer involved in the incident is on leave pending the outcome of the investigation. USA Today is reporting.
