The history of basketball

1891, James Naismith teaches at the James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Luther Gulick, head of the school’s Physical Education Department, commissioned Smith to design an indoor group game for the Winter Physical Education Syllabus. Smith created a basketball game inspired by local children’s favorite game where they shoot a ball into a peach basket.
