North Korea spent the biggest proportion of GDP in the world on boosting its military in 2019.

According to the the U.S. State Department's World Military Expenditures and Arms Transfers report,... North Korea injected around 15 to 26-percent of its GDP into its military.

This is the highest percentage among the 170 countries included on the list.

The State Department estimates the regime's military spending for that period to have ranged between 4 to 11 billion U.S. dollars.
Meanwhile, South Korea spent around 44 to 60 billion dollars - a much higher amount but equivalent to less than 3-percent of its GDP.

The U.S. government says its latest report on worldwide military expenditure is the final edition to be published.
