https://arcadeheroes.com - 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of Atari Inc., the company that essentially created the arcade industry as we know it. Their pioneering efforts resulted in many technologies and game mechanics that shaped game both in and out of the arcade.

To celebrate, I'll be taking a "deep dive" look at various titles by the company this year, starting with one I own - Crystal Castles. Released in 1983, it provided a unique take on the Pac-Man concept. Excepting Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest, I captured all of the footage from the machine or using the Atari Anthology; For the portions showing the console/computer ports, I used emulators excepting the Atari XEGS version, where I captured it from real hardware.

One note - Legend says that the reason the character's name changed from Braveheart to Bentley is that it caused a complaint with a Native American group at the time, but I've not been able to verify if that is accurate or just a popular, but incorrect, myth. I could be wrong there, and if so I'll update this space. Otherwise, it's just a minor footnote.
