CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD 1980 (aka The Gates of Hell, Paura Nella Città Dei Morti Viventi in Italy) - A reporter and a psychic race to close the 'Gates of Hell' after the suicide of a clergyman caused them to open, allowing the dead to rise from their graves.

Director Lucio Fulci had been re-reading works of HP Lovecraft & wanted to create a film that would be 'Lovecraftian'. He was moderately successful and the film has become one of his more popular horror entries.

One of the several 1980s Italian Zombie movies that came about after the success of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, known as 'Zombie' in Italy. These films are known for pushing the boundaries of grisly horror & gore at the time, though might now be considered tame by modern film comparisons.
