A 24-second violation occurs when a team acquires a new ball in play, or when the ball is legally touched by a team member on the pitch during a throw-in. The team with the ball must shoot within 24 seconds of receiving the ball. The conditions for completing the shot are: (1) the ball must leave the player's hand before the end of 24 seconds; (2) the ball must contact the hoop after it leaves the player's hand. If the ball does not touch the rim within 24 seconds, it is an offence for 24 seconds.
