University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture: Home Garden Trails 2019: 4 different varieties of green bush snap beans: Mascotte, Calima, 2 Blind trials #138 and #727. I planted these green beans at the end of April 2019 and this is an update on Aug 14, 2019. Due to huge amounts of rain when these seeds were initially planted, the growth was very slow - I also soaked them before planting so that made it worse. The Mascotte, Calima, and Blind Trial #138 germinated but the #727 was a total fail - so I replanted the #727 about a month ago and almost all germinated, no pre-soak, and I also replanted the other varieties as the growth was so slow and the bugs destroyed all but the Mascotte. Only now in mid Aug are all the varieties producing a good amount of beans. Only the #138 is producing larger beans, the other three varieties are thin. A runner up would be the Mascotte - but all in all - I would probably grow a different variety than all of these and just grow long green beans and purple long beans as there was no issue with germination, production and they are climbers so it's easier to harvest. I would say they all taste the same so there's no real reason to grow these varieties up in NE Tenn - we're 1700 above sea level.
