Directions: Read the verses by the lessons and answer the following questions:

Day 1: can you think of other examples in Scripture of individuals having to choose God over family members? Can you think of some times in your life when you have had to choose God over family members? Describe the distress Jesus felt throughout his earthly life and when it concluded.

Day 2: did Jesus come to bring peace or division? Explain your answer. How does the gospel create peace? How does the gospel create division? Why would unbelievers turn against believers? Why didn’t Jesus go out to his family when they came to see him?

Day 3: how does choosing God over family allow us to 1. be like Christ? 2. Teach our children? 3. Discuss our faith? 4. Show God we love him? What does it mean to be at peace with God, and what is the peace of God? How are they different? Does God literally expect us to hate our family members?
