SV Ramble On | Installing New Prop Nuts

A scary situation turned out to be a fairly easy fix this time. Once the prop was braced from spinning with a scrap of wood, the old nut came off easily and the new nuts went on smoothly. We ordered a new set of prop nuts (plus another set as a spare) and rewatched some video from our survey back in 2012. After a little research, we discovered that the old prop nuts were installed incorrectly. One of the nuts is thinner than the other (sometimes it's called the lock nut) and it seems like it would go on after the fatter nut. This is how they were installed on our prop shaft based on the survey video. But actually, the skinny nut goes on first based on some ABYC standard. So that's how we did it.
