Does Confession Earn Salvation? * 1 John 1:9 * Today's Verses

By acknowledging our sinful nature, we open ourselves to the work of the Holy Spirit and the process of sanctification and cleansing from our sins. But there is another point made here as well. Verses 8 and 10 address the Gnostics and unbelievers that don't believe they are guilty of sin. While they think they are making Jesus a liar, they only deceive themselves. Forgiveness is not available to people that don't believe they've done wrong. This perspective gives more depth to the correlation between confession and forgiveness. It is important to note that it is not our confession that saves us, but God. Our confession is simply saying we want His forgiveness.
