In 1968, Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns teams joined, bringing the total to 14. In the same year, the Atlanta Hawks moved to the Atlanta and changed its name to Atlanta Hawks. The 1969-70 season in 1970, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Buffalo Braves were three new teams, bringing the league's total to 17. When the NBA decided on the division, it created Atlantic Division, Central Division, Pacific Division and Midwest Division division.
