In 1954, the NBA introduced the 24-second rule, which was first invented by Syracuse Nation owner Dany Bjarthorne and which helped him get into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The Lakers became the first team to win three consecutive titles after defeating the Syracuse Nation (after the season ended, the NBA's first George Mikan Star announced his retirement) .
