Rick Danko was a tragic, yet compelling, figure. I wish I could have his stage presence when he was young and full of life. He really put his emotions on his sleeve with this song, and it is so hauntingly beautiful for that reason. Its beautiful because everyone of us who aren't sociopathic narcissists can relate.

I'm certainly drawn to sad songs, and it doesn't get much sadder than this. I think they are much more honest and human in their emotion, and help draw the listener out of whatever pain they might be feeling. Kind of a form of pain-reliever!

2022 One Take series; pick up the guitar, and hit "record" for one go around - and see how it goes! No edit, no retakes, no amplification. My goal is to work through my playbook alphabetically (more or less) in the year, recording a video every day (more or less).
