Blackening shuriken the new old way

Shuriken (and steel) were normally blackened by covering them with oil and then putting them in a flame to burn the oil. That bonds with the surface and creates a type of "glaze" that protects the steel. This is easier to do with liquid blueing today, but the aesthetic of the old style lost a bit, so blackening with oil and fire adds a bit of authenticity to it. I sped this whole process up by using chainsaw oil and a canister blow torch.
