Pretty in White: Freezing Pears for Smoothies

Hi, this is Lori Fiechter dealing with still more pears in My Indiana Kitchen! I was looking up "ways to use extra pears" when I saw listed to freeze pears for smoothies. I had good success freezing our blueberries and blackberries on silpat (silicon) on top of jelly roll pans, so I thought I'd try the same thing with pears. Of course, you can't just dump whole pears into the freezer like you can with berries! But now that I know how to soak the pears in a solution with a teaspoon of citric acid powder (which I originally bought to descale my espresso maker and our bathtub!), I felt confident that this would work.
