A scrapyard now housing damaged abandoned cars, public transport vehicles and military equipment damaged during the Russia-Ukraine conflict was filmed in Mariupol on Sunday.

Drone footage shows decommissioned vehicles within the territory of the city's former shopping centre.

It is believed that a car park now turned into a scrapyard will help to clear the city from rubble and barricades. In the future, the damaged equipment will be disposed of.

On April 21, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin that the Russian Armed Forces and the DPR People's Militia had taken full control of Mariupol.

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky admitted on May 8 that "Ukraine does not have heavy weapons to unblock Mariupol through military means."

President Zelensky added that the country's military and political leadership are engaged in the only other way to resolve the issue; the diplomatic route.

Moscow launched a military offensive on Ukraine in late February after recognising the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics' independence (DPR and LPR).

Kiev has denounced the Russian action, while the Ukrainian President imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation.

During recent peace talks, Russia called for Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral, providing guarantees that it will never join NATO.
