C-Band Satellite Dish Orthomode Feed Horn LNB -Setup
THE HAPPY SATELLITE NERD EPISODE 86 #FreeSatelliteTV #FreeToAir #FTASatellite
The ortho is more for commercial headend applications. The idea is to
separate the polarizations and guide them to their own wave guides. This
cuts down on cross polarization interference and generally you get a
cleaner signal. The single orthomode feed is used by TV or radio
stations that need just a single polarization. In this case, they will
get the maximum S/N ratio because there is only one microwave
polarization bouncing around inside the feed.

I also we look at a prime focus Ku feed horn. This is the correct feed
horn needed to illuminate a prime focus dish, as opposed to an offset
dish. Many hobbyists complain that they can't get good ku results with a
c/ku combo feed. This is because that feed is not designed to
efficiently illuminate a prime focus dish. Also, some people use offset
feeds on their big prime focus dishes, but again, the illumination
pattern will be wrong because of the f/d mismatch and they will get poor
results. The correct ku feed horn to use is the one I sent you. It is
matched for f/d = 0.4 It has several layers of scalars the create a
broad illumination pattern and utilize the entire surface of the prime
focus reflector. This is the key to getting excellent ku signal
reception. You just have to make sure you get the feed positioned at the
phase center of the reflector. Only way to do this is by hand. It will
be very near the focal point, but you will have to experiment.
Unfortunately, these feeds are designed for 3 strut antennas, whereas
your mesh dish has 4 struts. You may have to improvise to get it
attached. You could try attaching it to a c band scalar ring with 3
screws.

DESCRIPTION
This is a dual output orthogonal C-Band feed horn used for simultaneous reception of Vertical and Horizontal microwaves.
It separates the vertical and horizontal polarities and conducts them to their own rectangular waveguides. Uses Gardiner or Norsat LNBs (sold separately) at the waveguide openings.
Note: This feed horn setup is typically used by cable head-ends to allow switching of both polarities to multiple decoders/receivers. You can also use it on a single receiver home satellite setup by using a 2x1 Voltage switch (sold separately).

Our latest Ku-Band Prime-Focus LNBF featuring high gain, low noise and excellent stability. This LNBF will broaden the feed beam for correct illumination of a C-band dish.
This LNBF is matched for a dish f/D = (0.35 - 0.45) to give you the right illumination to receive Ku band satellite signals on a prime-focus 180cm, 210cm, 240cm, 300cm, 350cm or 400cm dish.
NOTE: Use this LNBF to turn your prime-focus reflector into a POWERFUL ku-band prime focus dish!
NOTE: Do NOT make the mistake of using an offset ku LNBF (f/D = 0.6) on a prime focus dish (f/D = 0.38) because only a small part of the reflector will be illuminated and signal gain will be limited.
NOTE: If you have a spare C-band dish sitting around, this is the LNBF you need to convert it to a POWERFUL ku-band antenna to catch those weak and elusive ku-band signals. Works with both solid and mesh antennas.
