Jude 1:14-16 Grumblers and faultfinders
Have you ever been around someone who just never seems to be happy and if always complaining no matter what is going on? These individuals are always nit picking and finding something to ruin their day. I know of one individual where a co-worker would joke that if you walked into the room and gave so and so a one hundred-dollar bill he would be upset that it wasn’t two fifties. They are grumblers and fault finders who are never satisfied and pleased. Jude says that those who had been deceived into preverting grace are just like these people. They judge everyone around them, are never satisfied, and are only out for their own evil desires. He then mentions that Enoch prophesied about such individuals and now they are in the very midst of the church. They were present in the church 2000 years ago and they are still present in the church today, so we too need to be on guard.
We heard our Pastor quote Winkie Pratney this week in Bible study and said, “God commandments are not a set of made up rules, they are statements of truth.” Mr. Pratney understands that it is not up to us to interpret which commandments of God we obey it is up to us to simply follow the truth. Many in the modern church think that they can debate or discuss which commandments are still relevant and which ones are fair in a modern society because they are not satisfied with the truth. They grumble about what God has said is truth and they find fault in the commandments of God handed down in His Holy Word. If we run into something in scripture that doesn’t align with what we believe, we don’t try to reason it away or ignore it, we change what we believe to align with the truth. Our society says that truth is relative and flexible, but God has already given us His truth and we should seek to follow it instead of creating our own.
