Detailed Overview and tour of Off Grid 5300 watt Solar panel and Battery setup in Ontario Canada.

In this Video Todd Bailey shows us all the components and the setup of his off grid system for his northern Ontario home. He has 5300 watts of solar panels on manual adjustable racking that he can tilt to optimize solar input, these are on a cement pad instead of the roof of his garage because of ease of cleaning and because of some code changes that went in right before this build. The series of panels run into a combiner box and then into the garage where he has his solar charge controller, inverter, breaker boxes, automation for the back up generator, and his battery bank. His battery bank is a 48 volt system using 6 volt lead acid batteries. The bank is spilt into two battery banks in parallel which requires balancing, which has bee one of the issues Todd has faced as one side of the bank tends to do more of the work and therefore requires more maintaining. The total capacity of battery storage is 40,000 watts, which serves them well for their smaller home and they are able to run major electric appliances, and they do use propane for heating, and cooking.
