Another story taken from a letter, this time to Donald Wandrei. But at least it's a full and proper story!

It's a good thing I took two semesters of Latin in college. I may not get all of it exactly correct, but it should be reasonably close. Except for some reason I just could not bring myself to pronounce 'Calagurris' correctly. No idea why, it's obvious enough what it should be, but my mind and mouth refused to utter it correctly. Ah well.

The picture used is of a re-enactor depicting a Roman Centurio 70 a.C. during a show of Legio XV from Pram, Austria Weinstock als Rangabzeichen Beinschienen, by Medium69, used here under the Creative Commons ttribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/deed.en).

That might be a little late for the time period in the story, but the soldier is still wearing lorica hamata and carrying a gladius. The helmet might be a bit too late, I'm not quite expert enough to be certain either way, but it should be overall close enough. The lorica hamata looks a bit too light-weight though, it has to be said. Probably because the reenactor would struggle a bit with wearing the weight of a proper mail shirt all day long. It really shouldn't be too overly cumbersome if properly worn, but I guess if you aren't used to it, after a few hours it probably gets to be a bit of a bother for most people.
