How important is transparency in moderating platforms? Why?
This may sound wierd to some…Once there was a time when there was no internet and people actually socialized “in Persona”…as in face to face. Birds of a feather flock together…You had watering holes that were “The Ticket” and was the place to be of Friday nights, some that were the place where everyone knew everyone…The internet has become a very ‘sterile environment…anonymous if you will. The fact a platform has to discuss moderation on any level is a form of censorship. When you talked in person you were with like minded people. Why can’t the platform say this is what can do here…if you don’t like it find another platform…That said. You’ve just created echo chambers.For some reason schools do not actually instruct life skills…same story everybody wants a trophy, just look at this administration. If our education system actually taught life skills, OH Golly-gee let me see…something like how to have a conversation and present facts to support your position???? Instead they are taught to scream to the top of theri lungs about you being an ‘IST’ practicing some ‘ISM’ and you’re going to cause someone to die, nobody can seem to tell you who is going to die, but somebody certainly will if you do not agree with them. Public speaking was always a part of the curriculum via oral reports on a specific subject. Now everyone wants to be a keyboard warrior.Here’s the kicker…It doesn’t matter what platform you’re on…everything on the internet ends up in some governments hands….everything you say or post via internet shapes your profile….why do you think everything is free???? You’re the ‘product’…The internet has made people forget that ideas were shared in bars, churches, Pizza Parlors, Coffee Shops, Bowling Alleys, social places like the bench in front of the local Drug Store, BBQ’s in the parks or showings at the museums….why do you think they were first to get shut down????
