Jude 1:11 I feel sorry for them.
I like to watch old westerns and my favorite is the old television show The Rifleman. The other day I was watching an episode on the Roku channel and there was a stranger that showed up into town that was holding a grudge against Lucas (the Rifleman). Lucas didn’t even remember the man or why he was angry with him, but the fella was dead set on avenging what Lucas has done to him over 15 years ago. The episode ended like every episode ends, with a gun fight and the Rifleman coming out on top but at the end Mark (the rifleman’s son) told his dad something strange. He said, “Pa, I know he wanted to hurt you, but I can’t help feeling sorry for that man.” Mark knew that the man was tormented by his past and driven by his desire for vengeance. Jude says in verse 11 that we should be filling sorry for those that he described in the opening of his letter. Those who have chosen to trample the gospel of grace by choosing to live immoral lives.
He says “Woe unto them” as if to say, they don’t even realize what is going to become of them if they continue this path. He goes on to compare them to three individuals in the Old Testament who made major spiritual failures. Cain who killed his brother, Balaam who was bribed to curse the nation of Israel, and Korah who rebelled against Moses and the earth swallowed his entire family. I think a lot of times that Christians look at the world as it is an us against them mentality when really, we should be having an us concerned for them mentality. Those who are away from God’s will are not at odds with us they are at odds with the creator of all of it this is not corrected then their fate is sealed as those that Jude mentions in this verse. Our hearts should be of that of love and compassion for their soul and we should be trying everything we can to reconcile them to the Father. Our prayers should be that they repent and run into the arms of a loving Savior just as we did, because without Jesus there is no hope.
