Abraham Lincoln declared martial law in order to handle the constitutional crisis of a split nation and and obliterated Congress, because there was no constitutional way to fix it at the time. Abraham Lincoln died and he never got a chance to resend or call off to Marshall law, it’s never technically been revoked, to this day. It still exists in certain presidential executive orders which just keep getting signed by all the presidents, to this day.
