Why I Carry Super Glue on the Trail

If you aren’t carrying Super Glue with you on the trail, you aren’t fully prepared. Carrying CA glue or Cyanoacrylate at all times is really a no brainer when it comes to having the proper tools with you in case of an unplanned repair or emergency. The single use tubes can be purchase just about anywhere. They are very lightweight and pack easily into any first aid or 10 essentials kit.

Super glue bonds to a variety of surfaces. Wood, metal, plastics, glass, leather, vinyl, ceramics and more. And when I say more, I mean your flesh. The medical industry has been using cyanoacrylate for several decades. And, although, not FDA approved at the time, it was tested on the battlefield during the Vietnam War to stop bleeding.

As a disclaimer, using non-medical grade CA glue on your wounds is at your own risk. CA glue can irritate the skin and at times generate excessive heat during the curing process. I’ve been using household grade super glue for longer than I can remember and I’ve never had an issue, but we’re all a little different. Be careful and test it before you start using it on “just a flesh wound”.

I know in this video I focused mostly on the repair of dried cracked finger tips, but really the glue is so useful for making repairs to shoes and other equipment that you’ll wonder how you every went without. Do yourself a favor and add it to your kit today.

Here’s a link to a real nice 4 pack of single use tubes of Krazy Glue on Amazon. They come in a little plastic case too.
