Trogir is a harbor town on the Adriatic coast, near a larger city of Split (Croatia), with a historic center situated on a small island between the mainland and the Island of Čiovo. It is included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites since 1997.

Trogir was founded in the 3rd century BC by ancient Greeks and it developed into an important port by the Roman times. With 2300 years of continuous urban tradition, Trogir, as do most Dalmatian towns, has a turbulent history which includes many different rulers, periods and influences: Greek, Roman, Croatian, Venetian, Byzantine, Habsburg, Napoleonic French and Italian.

Trogir's historic center is a beautiful example of a medieval town, rich with palaces, churches, and towers from Romanesque and Gothic but also Renaissance and Baroque periods. Some of more notable buildings are Kamerlengo Fortress (Kaštel Kamerlengo) from 15th century, City Loggia (Gradska loža) from 15th century and Cathedral of St. Lawrence (Katedrala Sv. Lovre) with beautiful Romanesque portal made by the famous local architect and sculptor Master Radovan (Majstor Radovan). Construction of Trogir Cathedral lasted from 13th to 17th century and since it took such a long time, it illustrates all the styles that succeeded one another in Dalmatia.

Trogir, though less known then Dubrovnik and Split, is a definite "must-see" Dalmatian jewel.
