Because I am an avid river fisherman I do a lot more fishing for smallmouth bass than I do for largemouth bass. This video is equally as relevant for largemouth bass fisherman as it is for smallmouth bass fisherman. If you are a beginner bass fisherman wondering how to bass fish you are up the right creek!

Here they are in the order they appear in this bass fishing tips video. The best bass fishing lures I know of are...
X-Cite XB1 Squarebill
Storm Arashi Squarebill

Rapala X-Rap sixe 8 or 10
Mepps Aglia Pink or Chartreuse #4 or #5
Mepps Black Fury
Panther Martin Gold Blade Black/ Yellow Dot

Salvage Bait Co. Scrappy Swimmer

Z-Man TRD Tubez

At this point I have 30 years of smallmouth bass fishing experience. I grew up living on The Looking Glass river and caught my first bass around the age of 5. I fished The Looking Glass River weekly for a decade before moving closer to my current 2 favorite rivers The Grand River and The Red Cedar River. After 30 years of river fishing for smallmouth my lure preferences have changed in some ways but some things have just stayed the same. My newest favorite bass lure is the Salvage Bait Co. scrappy swimmer. The Salvage Bait Company soft plastic lures are made of 100% recycled plastisol making it eco friendly. I have been using the Salvage Bait Co. Scrappy Swimmer for less than a year and have already caught good numbers and very large Smallmouth bass and Rock Bass. On the flip side I have been throwing panther Martin spinners for 30 years and I like them as much or more then ever. Tossing spinners and Rapalas feels like home to me but about a decade ago I got turned on to using soft plastic lures. Since then I have grown to love Bass Tubes, Twister Tails, Stick Worms and Paddle Tails. I mentioned the Salvage Bait Co. Scrappy Swimmer, Salvage Bait Co. Savage Stick, Salvage Bait Co. Chaos Craw, Zoom Salty Super Tube and the Z-Man TRD Tubez. I only ever fished one tournament so far in my life. It was an all species tournament and I took 3rd with a near master angler bullhead. One of the prizes I god was a huge box of soft plastic fishing baits that came with the appropriate hooks and jigs and thanks to this I learned to catch bass on a variety of soft plastics. I have since then refined the styles brands and presentations I use.

Reel Michigan Anglers is a personal passion and my gift to fellow fisherman. In the future I hope to do more informational fishing videos and cover different types of fishing all across the great state of Michigan. My goal, time permitting is to fish as many different bodies of water for as many different fish species as I can get try hands on. I am a lansing michigan resident working towards transferring to MSU for Fisheries and wildlife. My goal is to expand operations and bring more educational and entertaining fishing videos to my subscribers. In the meantime you can count on me for the occasional video outlining the the techniques and areas I fish for Bass, Pike, Walleye, Steelhead, Salmon, Trout, Carp, Suckers, Catfish and Panfish ect. You can see additional videos and other fun fishing related info on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?... I Wouldn't be the fisherman I am today without other fisherman who taught me the things I know and I am a firm believer that the sport and conservation of fishing in Michigan is better when we share it with one another. Wether your trying to lean a new spot to fish, a new crank bait to try, advise on what fishing rod to use, what fishing line to use, what color spinner a coho likes, what color jig a steelhead prefers, how to rig live bait, match the hatch, understand fish migration, the effects of barometric pressure or any other aspect of fishing the best way to learn is from other fisherman. That combined with trial and error and pure time spent on the water is the key to improving your fishing game. The better you get the more fun it is and the more we share the fun with others the more future generations will benefit from it.
