Many parts of Canada are experiencing a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases this summer, and although testing has slowed, wastewater data shows that cases are up.

The omicron variant’s highly-transmissible subvariant, BA.5, paired with the removal of most public health mandates, is the reason for this latest surge.
