Mr. Nogginbody Gets a Hammer has a problem. There is a nail sticking up from the floor that he catches his socks on when he's sliding across the floor for fun. He finds out the tool you need to fix a nail stuck up like that is called a hammer. Thanks to his friends at the hardware store, he's able to go fix the nail. But it won't fix exactly the way he thought it would. Sometimes he botches it and bends the nail. Then he sets out trying to fix other things with the hammer. He fixes a picture frame that isn't straight. He fixes a lamp that won't turn off. So he goes around looking for nails to smash with his hammer so that he can yell "Fixed It!" at the top of his lungs. The new problem he discovers is that not everything is a nail. Some things are shower heads, and chess pieces, and prairie dogs, and sprinklers, and worst of all of them, flowers. You cannot fix a flower with a hammer. So fortunately in the end Mr. Nogginbody learns that a hammer only fixes nails and not everything is a nail.

This funny story has a deeper meaning that can be applied to a lot of people, attitudes, and situations. It's a good reminder that before we try to solve a problem, it's worth trying to see if this particular situation is different than the one where our methods worked before. It's true that sometimes you need a hammer. But sometimes you need more patience and care than a hammer can ever give.

This was a fun book to read and record sounds for. I hope it doesn't cause your children to start breaking everything in your house with hammers or fists. It's a funny concept but only in the imagination. Please share this video if you enjoyed it!
