Trump Border Wall: Does it Help Slow the Spread of the Coronavirus?

In this video I explore the border wall's critics, the spread of contagions, and whether or not the wall helps slow the spread of the coronavirus.

In any political discussion you’ll find there are varying levels of intellectual depth.

And on certain issues you’ll find that the deeper you go the closer you get to the surface.

Here’s what I mean…

Ignorant people say, “Build the wall! Keep out all the Mexicans!”

Average people say, “LOL like really?! You can’t build a wall on the entire southern border. They’ll just use a ladder! Racist!”

Average people usually stop there because society encourages them to stop there. If you write the above comment you’ll have the benefit of feeling smarter-than-tho while at the same time getting more likes, which overwhelms any nuanced arguments.

But more thoughtful people say, “Wait why are border agents in favor of more wall? They must be aware that ladders and tunnels exist so why are they still in favor of it? Wait, they don’t want to build a wall on the entire southern border? Oh. Wait, walls prove time-and-time again to reduce illegal crossings? Wait, border walls actually are anti-racist by helping the Mexican people take back control of their own country from the cartel? Okay, BUILD THE WALL!!!!!”

Full circle.

Now the best possible argument you could make against building more wall is, “Although a wall works it isn’t worth the money.”

But that isn’t even a good argument because we will spend FARRRRRRRR more money on welfare (especially if democratic socialists pass free university, free healthcare, debt forgiveness, basic income, and guaranteed jobs) for illegal immigrants and their children who are disproportionally poor and low-skilled, which is the exact sort of labor that is also getting replaced by automation and driving down the wages of other low-skilled and middle class Americans. So by spending billions we’ll save trillions!

If you aren’t willing to acknowledge the sensibleness of building more wall on the southern border then you are either ignorant on the issue or your just a plain ol’ partisan hack.

Now something else to consider is that ideas are like viruses.

A virus is a submicroscopic infectious agent that replicates only inside the living cells of an organism.

Ideas can spread easily from person to person and ideas can also be bad for a person and a society.

So just as our government has an interest in keeping out the coronavirus, it also has an interest in keeping out bad ideas…

Because in the 21st century bad ideas were responsible for killing far more people than any biological virus.

And so in modern times, one of the most contagious bad ideas is democratic socialism.

Democratic socialists such as AOC, Illhan Omar, and Bernie Sanders believe that there is no problem too big or too small for the almighty federal government to fix. Their focus is primarily on how to alleivate the suffering of the poor via the American taxpayer (of course, not with their own money) and in the process of giving the poor such preferential treatment in the interest of winning their votes, they will, in my opinion, incentivize poverty in America.

Such policies as the so-called Green New Deal, Guaranteed Jobs, Medicare-for-All, are all so disastrous that if they were implemented they would slowly infect our market economy by replacing it with a planned economy, which would inevitably lead to a greater loss of freedom and life than any coronavirus.

Therefore Americans should seek to keep out people not only who have the coronavirus, but we should also seek to reduce the number of people who are most susceptible of contracting the democratic socialism virus, i.e. the economic and educational poor.

And then conversely we should seek to increase the amount of immigrants who are most immune to the democratic socialism virus, i.e. the economic and educational rich.

So with that established, can a border wall help stop the coronavirus?

It absolutely can help.

Governments aren’t ordering people to stay inside their homes, i.e. behind walls, for the fun of it.

By putting more walls between people we decrease the spread of the virus.

Governments also aren’t stopping foreigners from entering their country because they’re xenophobic.

Barriers in general also work to reduce the spread of the virus.

With that said, the coronavirus just seems so darn contagious that the only way to fully stop it in its tracks is a full international shutdown for months on end.

So Republicans may ironically lead in the international effort to take down barriers and reopen international trade while Democrats argue in favor of keeping everyone out.

With hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. every year though and many ending up in the shadows of American society, Democrats will need a border wall if they want any chance at succeeding.
