Founded in 2000, The Epoch Times is an independent media that dares to report the truth.
On November 29, 2018, the Hoover Institution, the renowned U.S. think tank in Stanford University, published a major 213-page report, Chinese Influence & American Interests: Promoting Constructive Vigilance, warning about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s all-round infiltration into the U.S. government, universities, media, think tanks, enterprises and the Chinese community.

After highlighting Beijing‘s infiltration into nearly all Chinese media in the United States, the Hoover report pointed out that “the space for truly independent Chinese-language media in the United States has shrunk to a few media outlets supported by the adherents of Falun Gong … and a small publication and website called Vision Times.”
The Epoch Times’ reporting is independent of the CCP’s control, thus it and its staff have all along been the key targets of the CCP’s attacks, online and in person.

As of 2018, 10 staff from The Epoch Times have been arrested in mainland China. They were charged with "inciting subversion of state power" and sentenced to prison, with terms of 3 or more years.
After 12 years of imprisonment, one of them died in 2017. Another was recently released in 2018 after 10 years of imprisonment. Outside mainland China, the reporters, editors, and even contributors to The Epoch Times were also directly threatened by the CCP.

In 2015, Epoch Times columnist Xia Xiaoqiang's family members in mainland China were threatened and harassed by the authorities. They demanded that Xia stop contributing articles to The Epoch Times.
The police from the CCP’s National Security Bureau said if Xia didn’t listen, they would take measures against him. They even threatened him saying that even if he were overseas, he would not be safe.
Even so, Xia said, "I stood up to the CCP and refused. That's the best way to protect my family. Only those who use unscrupulous means are afraid of being exposed to the public."

Kexin, another columnist for The Epoch Times, said that the press is the cornerstone of free speech.
She said with the CCP’s repressive censorship and control of the media in mainland China, as well as its infiltration into overseas Chinese-language media, The Epoch Times has managed to retain its independence while continuing to provide truthful and factual reporting.
To hold steadfast as it has over the years till today, the pressure and hardship The Epoch Times has gone through are unbelievable.

Former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon praised the great influence of The Epoch Times in New Tang Dynasty TV’s “Zooming In with Simone Gao”.

He said,
“This is the power (of) The Epoch Times, and I think why you’re one of the rising and most influential voices in the United States and in the world, on issues related to China.
If you noticed, the mainstream media did not cover. That meeting is so important.

Bannon added, "I think you guys everyday are becoming more and more as one of the standards and actually reporting news that’s out there, on this entire conflict. The mainstream media is playing catch with you. You, I think, did a much better job than the mainstream media."

On April 13, 2018, Republican candidate Paul Taylor, who was a candidate for the U.S. Senate from California, said he learned that president Trump reads The Epoch Times every day, and praised the paper as a trustworthy media.

Taylor said, "So I’ve been introduced to a person, who’s close friends with Donald Trump, and when I told her about The Epoch Times publication, she said that Donald Trump reads it every day."

Compared to other media, Trump feels that The Epoch Times
is a factual, accurate media. It is a media he trusts.

On January 31, 2019, president Trump shared a column article from The Epoch Times on Facebook.
Other than quoting and agreeing with sections of the article, he also reiterated that reports by the media that he was against assessments provided by U.S. intelligence agencies were simply untrue .
The Epoch Times’ in-depth and objective reporting on issues related to China has also been cited by the U.S. Congress and government reports.

Today, The Epoch Times is a multilingual media with branches in 35 countries across five continents; The Epoch Times’ website is available in 23 languages, and its parent company, Epoch Media Group (EMG), has become one of the largest news media in the world.
